DIY Halloween Decorations
OnDecorating for Halloween doesn’t have to cost a fortune, and some of the best decorations can be made on your own. These DIY decorations won’t break the bank and they’re easy enough to make that the kids can pitch in and have some Halloween fun.
Friendly Pumpkin Witch
This easy, DIY decoration is a fun alternative to pumpkin carving. Instead of making a big mess carving up pumpkins, you can use a large faux pumpkin to create your witch. Add foil to the stem to make a long pointy nose, and then paint the pumpkin with light green spray paint. You can find eyeglasses stickers or draw on your own with a black permanent marker. Use the marker to draw eyes and a mouth for your witch. Go with a happy smile for a friendly witch, or you can always change the mouth to a frown to go with a creepier, scarier witch. Add a black witches hat and surround your pumpkin witch with a bit of fall leaf garland.
Haunted Birdhouse Town
Pick up some cheap bird houses at a craft store or find them at a thrift store. You’ll just need some matte gray and glossy black spray paint. Spray some of the houses matte gray and some with the glossy black. Arrange your haunted birdhouses together so they look like a spooky town, adding some mini pumpkins, a few spiders, and a couple of eerie looking branches. This is perfect for a centerpiece display or a large display in your living room or on your front porch.
Spooky Paper Lanterns
With a bit of imagination and just a few dollars, you and the kids can have a blast creating your own spooky paper lanterns to hang indoors or outside on the front porch. All you need is white lights with paper lanterns, black paper, and some Mod Podge. Create some cute, spooky faces out of the black paper and then use Mod Podge to apply them to the white paper lanterns. Hang up the lights in the living room or create several strands of them to light up your front porch for trick-or-treaters.
Instead of buying decorations this year, make your own creative Halloween decorations. With a bit of time spent together as a family, some creativity, and a few cheap supplies, you can get your home ready for a spooktacular Halloween.
