Christmas Crafts Your Children Will Love
OnAlthough no two children are the same, there are two things every kid likes, arts projects and Christmas time! If you’re like most parents, your refrigerator is already covered with art projects from school, but why let your child’s teacher have all the fun when there are great simple projects you can do at home with your children?
Painted Pine Cones
Pine cones create a great effect when spray painted at a slight angle to turn the tops your favorite colors while leaving the undersides of the scales a wonderful earthy brown. Make sure to teach your child to wear disposable gloves with spray paint and to be responsible with how they aim the can. If your child is too young for spray paint, they will still enjoy helping you find the cones and choose a color. Tie a piece of ribbon or string into a loop to position between the scales and hang the ornament from your tree or in a window.
Glittery Candles
Glittery candles can be messy, so spread newspaper and use gloves. Wrap the top of the candle with masking tape, then use a paint brush to spread Elmer’s glue around the base to the tape line. Add glitter, and reapply as needed, remove the tape when the glue dries.
Knots and Bows
Using old bits of ribbon or fabric strips, let your child practice their knot tying skills by making pretty, well aligned knots and bows to join complimentary colors. Wrap the finished piece around the tree or loop it around a stair railing.
Great arts and crafts are simple enough for children, but adults enjoy them also. When you decorate with craft projects your child participated in, they have something to be proud of and can feel like they are an important part of the home and the holiday.
