Flashbacks: Timeless Tips on Creating Your Own Time Capsule

We all like to collect small trinkets and souvenirs over the years and need a place to put all of them. Why not compile them all into a time capsule so that your future self can look and reflect on the great memories you have? Here are a few tips on how to put it all together:
Building It
This is the part where you can get as crazy and creative as you want in putting your time capsule together. Go to your nearest arts and crafts store decide whether you want to put it in a wooden box, mason jar, or any other container you feel will keep your collectibles safe and secure. Beyond that, feel free to paint it and decorate it with construction paper, glitter, rhinestones, ribbons, and others. Include a message on the outside of the time capsule noting your future self to open it on a future date.
What to Put in It
As long as you don’t put in any food -which will obviously go bad and ruin your entire time capsule- feel free to add whatever you feel you want to remember in the future. Items like souvenirs, photographs, postcards, and event tickets will certainly suffice. Add some items like a newspaper article, a CD of a music playlist, and tiny fashion accessories that represent the time that you are creating the time capsule for you to smile -or cringe- in the future. Slip in a written letter to your future self on the things to remember and learn.
Where to Store It
Whatever you do, do not bury your time capsule! The items in your time capsule will not survive the moisture damage that builds up overtime, and you will most likely move far away by the time you’re ready to open it. Instead, we recommend placing your time capsule in a cool, dry place in your home. Keep it on top of a bookshelf or in your closet if you want to store it in a low-key place. Or if you like, put it on display on top of one of our selections of tables as a decor piece.
